How often should I change my engine oil?

Engine oil should be changed every 5,000km or 3 months whichever comes first. Short trip, cold
weather and heavy load shorten engine oil life. Engine oil is critical to an engine, it lubricates all
moving components in the engine, clean engine oil maintains engine performance and fuel mileage,
extends the life of an engine. Some European car manufacturers recommend oil change intervals at
12,000km, please consult your owner's manual.

My transmission works just fine, why do I need a transmission service?

Transmission fluid lubricates gears, bearings and clutch discs, it also cleans transmission oil
passages and maintains hydraulic pressure to ensure smooth operation. Most car manufacturers
recommend a transmission service every 50,000km. Clean transmission fluid prolongs the life of
your transmission and avoids expensive transmission repair
.

What is a timing belt?

Timing belt is a toothed belt connects the engine camshaft to the crankshaft. A timing belt is made
of rubber and it wears out eventually. Not every car has a timing belt, some cars use timing chain.
Most car manufacturers recommend a timing belt replacement every 96,000km. What happen
when a timing belt breaks? Good news if you have a free-running engine, you will have to pay for
the towing and timing belt repair cost to get the car back on the road. Bad news if your engine is
interference fit, it may result in major engine damage. Beside the towing and timing belt repair
cost, you have to pay for big dollar to rebuild your engine. Please consult our service advisors to
find out whether you have a timing belt or a timing chain, get it replaced before your car
breaks down.

Every time I make a sharp turn, I hear a big clicking noise coming from the front
of my car, what's wrong with it?

Today's front wheel drive vehicles, the front wheels are connected to the transaxle via two drive
axles. Each drive axle has an inboard and outboard constant-velocity joints. CV join tis a type of
universal joints, it transmits torque at an angle from one shaft to another without any speed
variation. Each joint is covered by a rubber boot,it's job is to keep lubricant in and prevent dirt
and other contaminants from getting into the joint. When the boot is torn or ripped, lubricant
leaks out and dirt may get into the CV joint and damage it. Under heavy acceleration and sharp
cornering, it makes a loud clicking sound. The best way to prevent the CV joints from becoming
damaged is to ask your technicians to inspect the CV boots during oil changes. It takes one minute
to do a visual inspection, replace torn boots before the axles damage.

I recognize a strong anti-freeze smell in the car, I also see steam and smoke come
out from my heater vents, what's wrong?

It sounds like your heater core is leaking. The heater core is part of the engine cooling system,
anti-freeze runs through the entire heating system. If the heater core leaks, the anti-freeze
drains out, the blower fan will blow the anti-freeze and steam up to the windshield and heater vents.
Regular maintenance like cooling system flush will help to prevent blockage and corrosion build
up in the cooling system.

The 'Check Engine' light comes on my dash, what's wrong? Is it safe to drive my
car?

Today's vehicles have an onboard engine computer, what we call ECM (Electronic Control
Module) that controls the fuel injection system. The ECM monitors all the engine input sensors
and make adjustments on air/fuel ratio, ignition timing and emission, etc. When there is a problem
in your system, the ECM records the problem and stores a trouble code, then it turns the 'Check
Engine' light on.
Is it safe to drive? It depends on what trouble code is stored in the computer. In worst situation,
driving with check engine light may result in more damage to your vehicle. If your check engine
light came on or flashing, have the your vehicle inspected as soon as possible.

When I am braking at high speed or downhill, my steering wheel is shaking badly,
what could be the problem?

We call it brake pulsation, it is caused by out-of-round brake rotor, uneven wear between the
brake pads and rotors. In order to make a smooth braking application, the brake pad and rotor
must conform to one another so that brake pressure is consistent over the contact surface. To fix
this problem, the brake rotor needs to be machined or replaced.

I hear a high pitch 'Buzzing' noise coming from the back of my car, what could
that be?

Today's fuel injected engine requires an electrical fuel pump to deliver fuel from the gas tank to the
engine, when the pump drive gears wear out, it will make a 'Buzzing' sound, it a sign of a fuel pump
failure, get the fuel pump replaced before your car breaks down. Fill your gas tank every 1/4~1/2
tank will help to prolong the life of the fuel pump. When the fuel level is down to the bottom, the
fuel pump will pick up all the contaminants from the bottom of the gas tank and plug the fuel pump.
Gasoline also helps to prevent the fuel pump from overheating.

My brake pedal goes right to the floor, after I pump the brake a few times, the
pedal goes back up again. Is my car safe to drive?

You probably have a leak in your brake system. When you have a leak in the hydraulic brake
system, it will suck air back into the brake lines and cause a spongy brake pedal. After you pump
the brakes a few times, you compress the air in the system and bring the pedal back to normal.
